We enjoyed the food here, even though it is somewhat Americanized Chinese food (orange [slightly overly] sweet and sour sauce)

I came here to celebrate belated Father's Day and Mom's birthday. No, wait for Tuesday at 7 pm. This is my 2nd time coming; the food still tastes good except for the lack of air conditioning inside during the extreme heat weather. Peking duck is a must and add-on soup. I ordered the deep-fried striped bass with sweet and sour sauce this time. It is delicious and goes well with the rice, but they added too much vinegar to the sauce. Shrimp with dragon tea was refreshing, but I wish they had used bigger shrimp instead of fried rice shrimp. The sauteed crab meat was so delicious that we needed to order an extra rice. The braised pork belly with black tea was not too oily, and it melted in your mouth. The service was fantastic. This place is pricy for the portion, but it is worth it. It is not a regular Chinese restaurant, and each dish was nicely presented.

We loved JiangNan! The atmosphere was fancier than we expected, but was very pleasant. All of the food was excellent and came out quickly. Favorites included the peking duck (best we've ever had) and the cucumber with pork belly (similar to Szechuan mountain house). The pig's feet were also super tender, and the okra was very unique. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked and smelled great! We also really loved the pineapple "beer" which was served on dry ice and reminded us of kombucha. It was a great dining experience and we're so happy we went!

First time here, read great reviews and it was close to our hotel. Modern yet simple decor, jazz music playing overhead sets a sophisticated environment. Menu is rife with authentic dishes (bullfrog, pig liver, kidney, etc), but also amazing (more Western) items like Peking duck, soup dumplings, stir fried dishes, pan fried bao, and fried rice. The dining area is roomy; not crowded with tables, which is a big plus. Dishes were all very good to excellent, with a highly recommended half Peking duck. Yum! Soup dumplings were another special treat, and something we should order. Pea shoots as a side dish were the perfect vegetable - healthy, fresh, and just the right crispness. Overall, five stars!

Came here for Mother's Day lunch and made a reservation over the phone a few weeks in advance. I do wish they had online reservations, as it was fairly hard to reach them on the phone. We were running late due to traffic and road closures, so I really appreciate them being accommodating and still honoring our reservation despite our tardiness! We got a half order of the Peking duck, the smoked pork, cabbage in chicken broth, crab XLB, garlic eggplant with minced meat and pork belly bamboo soup. All of it was good, though some in my party said the Peking duck was sweeter than they preferred. We also got complimentary dessert which was the peach gummies with tremella (Mother's Day special I believe). The dessert and peach tea we got were both barely sweet, perfect for your Asian parents and a-yis who think everything is overly sweet! The one miss that I do remember is that we were seated in the very back of the restaurant, which was fine, except for the fact that the waiters and bus staff all hung around there when not tending to a table so it did feel a bit awkward having staff looming over us for periods of time throughout our meal.

This restaurant has been on my bucket list for a long time and we just got to try it yesterday. 1. Food: 8.5/10 We ordered Stir-fried string beans with minced meat, Braised pork belly in tea sauce, Peking duck (half) and Sliced ox tongue. We enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. Peking duck was delicious, but we didn't think it was super unique or anything. We really enjoyed the pork belly and the string beans. We had mixed feelings for the ox tongue. While it was good with great spice, the meat still has a strong smell for me. 2. Ambience & Service: 8/10 The place is small but we got seated at a big table so we felt super spacious. Cute and simple decor. Our water kept getting refilled without us needing to ask. We had to flag down the server to get our bill though, but overall they were efficient. 3. Location & Price: 7.5/10 This is centrally located in Chinatown, which is in the downtown area of Boston. Not a whole lot of parking so if you come with a car, that would be tricky. The location is also close to Boston Commons, so you can certainly walk around after eating as well. Pricing is fair for Boston, but obviously on the higher side for Chinese food. We didn't think it was unreasonable though. Overall: 8.5/10 We will come back to try more dishes!!

This is such a great find! One of the most delectable fine Chinese dining experiences across the country. The food is made of high quality ingredients, made in such a refined way, and served with care and precision. The service is top notch. They are courteous and professional. Not to mention hot waiters. We got the sautéd water spinach, xlb, steamed egg with truffles, and pork meatballs in house special sauce. Every dish was flavorful and refined. You can taste the quality in their ingredients and the special skills that went into the making of each dish. The ambiance gives a classy but laid back feel. It allows you to feel being in a place of beauty, refinement, and comfort.

Upscale Chinese restaurant with lovely decor (think: tall ceilings, tan leather booths, small flower or candle centerpieces on every table, and mirrored walls) and attentive service. Located in a prime spot next to Boston Common, but on the pricier side for Chinese food (average $20-30 per dish), especially given the smaller portion sizes. All of the dishes are done well, but nothing has blown me away. The peking duck is worth getting for the experience, though they used to light the full duck on fire and carve the meat table-side and don't seem to be doing that anymore. The sautéed crab is also a cool presentation, served with large crab shells containing the crab sauce, which the server mixes into rice for you. The end result is a soft and yummy flavored rice, though it doesn't seem to contain much crab meat. Overall, flavors and portion sizes are not worth the price for me, but you're also paying for location, ambiance, service, and presentation. I would come back again if suggested by other people.

I've always wanted to try this restaurant, with its neo-Chinese decor and service but it was the Peking Duck that whetted my appetite. I knew the restaurant that was in this location previously and I was curious to see how the owners would transform the space. The restaurant is long and narrow and upon entering, with its well lit ambiance and red curtain flair, it was like walking into theater, with Chinese food being the center of attention. The tables were adorned well, with customer amenities like packaged towel and gloves. There definitely was a refined welcome. We started off with black tea and it was fragrant. For starters, wontons in chili oil, lamb skewers were orders. The former being the better of the two though the table side torching of the lamb skewer was a nice experience - be sure to have your camera out! The half Peking Duck with salt and pepper bones was ordered along with Mapo Tofu and Sweet & Sour Pork Tenderloin. It was only after ordering did I realize that only the whole duck is served table side but the presentation of the half duck on a tray was nice. The duck was succulent and crafting the duck roll with hoisin sauce, cucumber and scallion was fun. The pineapple was new and I wasn't sure if that was meant for the duck roll or as a palate cleanser. Also note, each rice wrap was separated with paper, a nice touch. The salt and peppered duck bones were fun but not necessary. The other dishes were tasty but it's really about the elevated experience, which is what Jiang Nan is striving for. The dessert, the Gluten Rice Cake in Brown Sugar was fun but afterward, I was more curious about the Mango Pamelo with Sago, as it was the waitress' other favorite dessert. I'm all for an elevated Chinese cuisine experience as Chinese food and service has not always been taken seriously so I'm glad this restaurant is trying to do just that. Though I would need to try this restaurant again, I envision that the restaurant staff will conceive new ways to take familiar dishes and elevate it to new expectations. Kudos to the waitstaff for providing excellent, friendly and swift service.

Gosh. This joins Sumiao and Szechuan Mountain House in the ranks of high priced but super high quality Chinese food. Went here on Chinese New Year (they don't take online reservations) and was the 5th party in line 15 minutes before they opened. The food did not disappoint. We ordered two ducks and a bunch of other random stuff. Very good overall, and service was exceptional. My water glass was never empty. Cannot wait to come back. The duck is a must-order. Our ducks were not super large, but they were pretty fatty + good lean meat too. Gimmicky to be setting stuff on fire tableside (duck, lamb) but everything tasted great.
